Stay up to date with Caleb With Curls

Goodbye Preschool

Hello Homeschool!

Today, Caleb and I went to his old preschool, The Rock Academy Early Education Center, to say goodbye to some of his teachers. Caleb went to The Rock Academy part-time from 15 months to 5 years old. There were so many great things that he got from the school, and I really had a hard time pulling him out. When I decided on homeschooling for Kindergarten, I was completely apprehensive about what that would look like for us. The program that we found had an opportunity for us to get a jump on the homeschooling experience, through Early Access Kindergarten (EAK). I almost considered leaving him in the part-time preschool, and still trying to follow the homeschooling program, but I knew that didn’t make any sense. My fears were overshadowing my common sense!

So I had planned a great farewell for a while. I had personalized gifts for a few of the teachers that really made the most impact on our little family over the past 3 years.  I had a lot of anxiety going back to the school because it was kind of the last thing that I had to do before that door was officially closed. I knew I would have to fight tears as we said our goodbyes. Now, if you’ve noticed, up to this point… I’ve talked about me and what this decision was to me. But here’s the impact that it had on Caleb.

Well, that’s because we could have been walking into the grocery store for all Caleb cared.

Don’t get me wrong. We got to the school, and it was a great visit! Caleb ran around with the kids, hugged the teachers, and then he was ready to go. No tears. No lingering. No issues. Just progress.

Here are the some of the gifts we gave to his teachers:

I sometimes look at this kid and get so envious of his ability to let things go. I feel like I attach myself to everything and everyone. He’s moved on to the next chapter, appreciates the people and experiences that he had, while simply moving along.

So today’s lesson from Caleb with Curls is learning to value Adaptability! How much simpler would my life be if I was able to just allow the experiences that I’ve had in my past be just that… experiences. No more attaching meaning or labels to them. Just gleaning the lessons and moving on. Something to work on.

I would invite you all, as a parent, to continually learn the importance of gleaning lessons from our kids. Today’s lesson was really great for me. Hopefully, it was something that blessed you too!

2 He called a little child to him and placed the child among them. 3 And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew 18:2-4 NIV
